Wow! What a game you saw last night if you had Tampa Bay Rays tickets, when Jeremy Hellickson threw a no hitter for the WIN_TEAM!! Congratulations to Hellickson as well as the Rays for an incredible accomplishment. Jeremy Hellickson went 7 solid innings for the Rays, allowed 3 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with no walks and 7 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rays was Joaquin Benoit (1.30), and Mike Ekstrom (7.36). The Tigers’s starter Max Scherzer went 7 innings, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Phil Coke (2.68), Robbie Weinhardt (6.89), and Enrique Gonzalez (4.18) also pitched for the Tigers. With the win, Hellickson’s record goes to 2-0, while Scherzer drops to 7-9.
In addition to the 8 runs, the Rays put up 9 hits and committed no errors. Jason Bartlett led the Rays in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Evan Longoria’s 2 hits. Jason Bartlett had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Tigers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Tigers got no runs, 4 hits and 2 errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Andy Fletcher, Mike Everitt, Adrian Johnson and Tim McClelland. There were 26,114 Tigers ticket holders in attendance at Comerica Park.
