The Cleveland Indians did battle with the the Detroit Tigers yesterday at Progressive Field with the Indians picking up the W 7 to 2. The Tigers’s starter Andrew Oliver went 3.2 innings, allowed 4 hits, one home run and 5 earned runs with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. Eddie Bonine (2.80), Jose Valverde (1.13), and Enrique Gonzalez (2.03) also pitched for the Tigers. With the win, Gomez’s record goes to 1-0, while Oliver is at 0-4.
In addition to the 7 runs, the Indians scored 10 hits and committed one error. Jayson Nix led the Indians in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Michael Brantley’s 2 hits. Austin Kearns had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. The Tigers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits.
