Tigers spanked by Twins at Metrodome

The Minnesota Twins annihilated the Detroit Tigers yesterday at Metrodome with the Twins victorious 11 to 4. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Twins tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 15 runs! Talk about excitement! Twins pitcher Nick Blackburn (6.02 ERA) got the win, while Armando Galarraga (4.50 ERA) took the loss for the Tigers. Nick Blackburn went 7 solid innings for the Twins, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and 4 earned runs with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Twins was Brian Duensing (1.89), and Jose Mijares (2.30). The Tigers’s starter Armando Galarraga went 4 innings, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and 6 earned runs with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Fu-Te Ni (6.65), and Enrique Gonzalez (1.74) also pitched for the Tigers. With the win, Blackburn’s record goes to 7-5, while Galarraga drops to 3-2.

Denard Span provided much of the offense for the Twins with an incredible 5 runs batted in. In addition to the 11 runs, the Twins put up 13 hits and committed no errors. Denard Span led the Twins in hitting with 4 hits, followed by Joe Mauer’s 2 hits. Joe Mauer had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Tigers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Tigers mustered 4 runs, 7 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Scott Barry, Bill Welke, Jim Reynolds and Tim Welke. There were 40,593 Twins ticket holders in attendance at Metrodome.
