The Kansas City Royals did battle with the the Detroit Tigers yesterday at Kauffman Stadium with the Royals victorious 7 to 2. It was a huge win that rooters with Royals tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Royals pitcher Brian Bannister (4.50 ERA) got the win, while Jeremy Bonderman (4.40 ERA) took the loss for the Tigers. Brian Bannister went 7.1 solid innings for the Royals, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with one walk and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Royals was Blake Wood (3.38), and Joakim Soria (2.49). The Tigers’s starter Jeremy Bonderman went 5.2 innings, allowed 11 hits, one home run and 7 earned runs with one walk and 2 strikeouts. Ryan Perry (5.82), and Brad Thomas (4.76) also pitched for the Tigers. With the win, Bannister’s record goes to 6-3, while Bonderman drops to 2-4.
In addition to the 7 runs, the Royals put up 15 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Royals, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Jason Kendall had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Tigers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Tigers mustered 2 runs, 6 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by C.B. Bucknor, Doug Eddings, Dana DeMuth and Kerwin Danley. There were 22,240 Royals ticket holders in attendance at Kauffman Stadium.
